Origin
Phastos is an Eternal, a nearly immortal race created thousands of years ago by the alien Celestials. Being a weapon-smith, Phastos was mistaken for the Olympian god Hephaestus during the days of ancient Greece. Phastos is more reticent than his other Eternals, having a melancholy spirit and an ambivalence toward fighting. When Apocalypse tried to incite a new war with the Deviants, the Eternals decided to go public as superheroes. In his new identity, Phastos adopted the codename Ceasefire.
Creation
Created by writer Peter B. Gillis and artist Sal Buscema, the Eternal Phastos first appears in the first issue of the second volume of Eternals.
Powers and Abilities
Phastos is the earth eternal’s master technologist and has created numerous inventions and weapons to aid them. Strength: Phastos can lift/press at least 25 tons making him far stronger than an average Eternal (an average Eternal can lift/press 15 tons). Phastos can lift even greater weights by employing his levitation powers to help him lift objects. The amount of weight he can levitate is unknown.

Film
- Phastos appears as one of the main characters in the live-action Eternals film, portrayed by Atlanta star Brian Tyree Henry. Similar to the comics, he is depicted as the chief scientist and inventor of the Eternals. In the present day, he lives in the suburbs of Chicago with his husband and son, haunted by the guilt he feels for helping in mankind’s technological advancement, which led to atrocities throughout history. He is notable for being the first gay superhero to be featured in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, something that garnered much attention around the time of the film’s release.
