Star Trek Canon Special Note
Not everything listed in the origin is Canon.  That is because only television shows and movies are considered canon.  This being a comic website there are many things here that are not canon.  So unless it is contradicted in film it should be listed as part of the character biography.

Philip Boyce was born in New York where he was also educated before joining Starfleet.  When he was a young doctor he helped out in a plane crash.  It was here that he was unwittingly the victim of having the alien spirit infect his host.  He later became the Doctor of the Star Ship U.S.S. Enterprise under Captain Christopher Pike.  While being the chief medical officer on-board the spirit moved him to murder for the unrevenged spirit.  It was after this that the spirit was discovered and removed.

Boyce was assigned to the U.S.S. Enterprise and became Chief Medical Officer after the death of Doctor Raintree.  He is close to Captain Pike and is one of the few on ship who can speak plainly with him.  His last known adventure ended when he was aboard a Klingon shuttle that was close to a blast.  It is unknown how he survived but after his five year tour he taught a Starfleet Academy and retired.  Most of his missions being top secret most of what Boyce did during his tour is still unknown.

Boyce was created by Gene Roddenberry for the original Star Trek pilot.  When the second pilot was made a new character was used.  Later, when the comic book series Star Trek: Early Voyages made it’s debut Boyce’s adventure were more flushed out.  He did however look younger and more in shape than the actor who originally played him.
