Creation

Prince Naveen is an update to the Frog Prince story from 1812, written by Brothers Grimm for the Disney animated feature film, The Princess And The Frog. Prince Naveen is also the first Disney prince to be of Indian descent.

Major Story Arcs

Prince Naveen was turned into a frog after a bad deal with Doctor Facilier. He sought out Tiana for a kiss, to turn himself back into a man believing it would break the curse, but passed the curse onto Tiana instead, turning her into a frog too.

The two had to work together as a comedic frog duo, where they learned about each other outside of their royal lives. After Tiana defeats Doctor Facilier and they’re turned back to normal, the pair would start a romantic relationship in human form.

Prince Naveen also appeared in novelizations of the story, as well as comics taking place after the movie, showing his life with Tiana. He is also set to appear in the upcoming Princess Tiana animated series spin-off.

In the show’s final season, Tiana and Naveen were introduced as core characters with their story of once being frogs still having happened although never seen. Naveen in the real world goes by the name of Drew, and unlike Tiana is aware of the curse He however is under Doctor Facilier magic control. After breaking free and the curse being broken, Tiana and Naveen came back together. Naveen was played by Jeff Pierre, which was controversial to many Disney fans, especially of Indian descent due to Jeff Pierre being an African American actor.
