HISTORY
Bram Thurston is the assistant to Professor Cornell. When the professor discovers the Cornell Proton, Bram kills Cornell and names the discovery the Thurston Proton. Bram is able to convince Dr. Carter into developing an extremely destructive ray cannon from Dr. Carter’s Mars observatory. When Thurston blows up an inhabited asteroid with the weapon. Dr. Carter tries to have Dan Hastings arrest Bram. Thurston’s new hand-held weapon is powerful and keeps Hastings and his companion, Gloria Carter, at bay. Bram leaves in Dan’s spaceship.
Bram wires up Dr. Carter to control the ray cannon while he goes to Earth to convince the President of the United States of the importance of the discovery. Using evidence in Dan Hastings’ rocketplane, he attempts to frame Dr. Carter and Hastings. It seems to be working until Gloria pretends an attraction to Thurston and takes his gun away from him. The president is soon convinced that Bram Thurston is a shyster. Thurston takes his own life with his gun.
NOTES
At the end of this story, Lieutenant Dan Hastings asks Gloria to marry him. It’s a proposal she readily accepts.
