Puff

Overview

Dakotaverse

Static

Not much is known about Puff’s history except that is a Hispanic Bang Baby who teamed-up with Coil, a fellow Bang Baby, to capture Static. Puff wrote love notes on billboards all over the Dakota to lure Static into a false sense of security. When he arrives to meet at the Tenth Avenue Bridge, she and her partner sprung their trap. Unfortunately, Static managed to escape them. He then regroups to come up with a strategy. The next night, thanks to his high school chemistry class, Static uses water from a fire hydrant to cause deconcentrated solution as it caused the water to make Puff swell up like a balloon and negate her powers. With Puff out of commission, Coil was defenseless against Static’s electrical powers. They two were then defeated.

Milestone Returns

Static Season One

Puff returns in the pages of Static Season One. This time she looks exactly like her animated counterpart from the Static Shock cartoon. Instead of being Hispanic like from before, she is now African-American. Even her friend Onyx appears alongside her along with other Bang Babies from the cartoon show (Talon, Shiv, and D-Struct)

Puff in Static Shock
Puff in Static Shock

Puff is featured on the Static Shock cartoon, but with some tweaks.

Instead of being Hispanic like in the comic book counterpart, she is African-American. In the show, she was teamed up with a male Bang Baby named Onyx, not Coil (who never appeared). In her first appearance in Season 1, Episode 11 “Bent Out of Shape”, she and Onyx tried to become bounty hunters and capture Rubberband Man when he escaped from prison. They were defeated by Static and have since then been villains. She and Onyx later resurface in Season 3 Episode “Consequences”, where a fight with Static leaves his girlfriend Daisy Watkins injured and sent to the hospital. Fueled by rage Static goes after Puff and Onyx personally, until Rubberband Man returns to calm his friend. Puff and Onyx were thwarted by Static and Rubberband Man once again. Her next appearance in third season came in episode 6 “A League of Their Own Part One”, where she, Onyx, Hostreak, and Carmendillo form the Meta-Men to take down Static and his new partner Gear. They almost succeed until the Justice League (consisting of Batman, Flash, Hawkgirl, and Martian Manhunter) intervened. She was defeated by the Flash. Her next appearance, episode 8 “Showtime”, but only for a brief time. She and Onyx were stopped by Static and Gear for shopfitting at a mall. Her final appearance, season 4 episode 12 “Kidnapped”, the pre-finale episode, Puff and Onyx were hired by a woman named Omnara to kidnap Robert Hawkins, whom unbeknownst to them is the father of Static, and deliver a message to Static to meet Omnara in person. She is voiced by Kimberly Brooks.
