Pythia is the goddess that controls the Garden of Hope, the only place that could be dubbed beautiful on Apokolips. The garden is often visited by Darkseid himself when he is stressed out.
Role in ‘Orion’:
After Darkseid tries and fails to escape from Orion who now has the Anti-Life Equation, he seeks final refuge in the Garden of Hope. Searching for Pythia but finding nothing, Darkseid rampages through the Garden until his actions draw her out. Stating that he is welcome to come, but must be peaceful if he wants to stay, he fires the Omega beams at her which get flicked away. After reminding him of past losses against her & offering hospitality, Darkseid sees the wisdom in her approach and the 2 discuss the future of Apokolips. Their meeting gives Darkseid hope…. and the Garden gives his prep time to finish his son once and for all.
Earning Pythia’s trust, Darkseid begins to build a device that could save all of Apokolips from destruction… only problem, it pollutes the lush Garden of Hope. Pythia comes out and threatens to wipe the machine from existence but Darkseid explains his plan to her. After seeing what is being built she is disappointed at what hes done, brought death (The Black Racer) to her Garden.
Role in ‘New Gods’
After the fight between Darkseid and Orion, Pythia is again visited by Darkseid (Dessad in disguise) who comes uncharacteristically barking orders at her. Seeing through the ruse, she burns the disguise and asks the lowly follower what he wants. Dessad informs her that with Darkseid gone he is the ruler now and wishes to consult with her about the future of Apokolips. Asking her to plead with the Source, she shows him the Source has bigger problems to deal with.
Powers & abilities
Pythia is guardian to the last beautiful oasis on Apokolips, and it wasn’t through Darkseid’s generosity. She is Darkseid’s better and has not only implied she has bested him on multiple occasions but even shows that his Omega beams are nothing to her. Once Darkseid and Metron planned out a machine in the garden, and when Pythia found out about it, she was tempted to destroy it, but refrained from doing so.
She is also able to see through any disguise, and materialize items out of thin air (as well as erase advanced metals with a thought). She is able to create fires that burn hotter that the fire pits, and stop them when she chooses.
