Origin
Craig Mansfield was a private eye who along with the prerequisite skills of toughness and snooping had an unusual surprise edge. He was a little person who was seen by the rest of the world as an average sized man through the use of specially built “racks” that he wore on his legs to not only add his height but via the use of a button on his wrist retract and extend them so he could shoot up to as tall as nine feet tall, or when setting down fire them like a weapon.

One of a number of short lived backup features in Airboy Comics, in this case in the first story drawn by Fred Gaurdineer and scripted by an unknown writer, each Rackman story opened with this.
“Rackman: On a lonely island along the Atlantic coast lives the fabulously wealthy Mansfield family. They are dwarfs who give themselves added height by the use of ingenious racks⦠and their guarded secrecy is only disturbed by the knowledge that their son, Craig, has chosen to move among less fortunate people as a crusader against crime and injustice.”
Craig’s son returned as Rackman in the 80’s in the revival of Airboy.
