Origin
Raina is a fairly typical and average girl raised in a Christian household with religiously devout Christian parents. Her family financially struggles, but Raina appears to be the glue helping hold to the family together, especially when her parents end up divorcing. Raina has an adopted brother and sister, Ben and Laura respectively, as well as an older, biological sister by the name of Julie. Responsible and empathetic, Raina looks after Ben and Laura, and often times takes care of her sister’s child, Sarah. While attending a bible camp, she encounters the soft spoken kindly boy, Craig Thompson, whom she experiences a friendship and passionate first love with.
Creation
Raina is a main character in the book Blankets, an autobiographical retelling of writer and artist Craig Thompson’s early life, although some events and characters have been modified and altered. Blankets is published by Top Shelf Productions and was released in 2003.
