Randolph Carter was created by H.P. Lovecraft and is a protagonist in several of his stories. During his quest in the Dreamlands he was actually able to defeat the Outer God Nyarlathotep by avoiding a fatal trap set by Nyarlathotep and escaping back to the real world.
