Origin
Recondo’s real name is Daniel M. LeClaire. He was born in Wheaton, Wisconsin. His primary MOS is infantry and his secondary MOS is intelligence. He is a cadre member at Jungle Warfare Training Center and is a qualified expert using the M-16, Swedish K grease gun, M1911A1, and M-79 grenade launcher. He holds the rank of corporal E-4.
Creation
Recondo was first released in 1984 as a part of the Hasbro G.I. Joe toy line. His story and character were written in the Marvel series G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero by Larry Hama.
Character Evolution
Being G.I. Joe’s primary jungle trooper, Recondo has appeared on many of the team’s jungle missions. He was stationed in Sierra Gordo when he was first introduced. He established a strong relationship with the natives of Sierra Gordo known as Tucaro‘s. They often help him navigate the land on his missions there. The relationship with the Tucaro’s span across both the Marvel and DDP comic book series.

Television
Recondo was a main character in the first season of Sunbow’s G.I. Joe animated series. He first appeared in the mini-series “Revenge of Cobra”. In the show’s second season, he was moved to a secondary role. He was voiced by Bill Morey.
Video Games
Recondo was a playable character in the 1985 G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero video game. He was also supporting character in the 2009 G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra video game and voiced by Brian Bloom.

He was a character in the novel Operation: Tiger Strike.
Toys
Recondo was first released in 1984 in the Hasbro G.I. Joe toy line. He was repainted for the 1988 Tiger Force and was packaged with the Tiger Fly assault helicopter. His file card was changed to incorporate his experience piloting helicopters.
