Modern Age
Remnant appears around the time of the anniversary of Superman’s first encounter with Doomsday. His first criminal act seen was the bombing of a suburb outside of Metropolis. Over time, it’s revealed the he was causing a series of incidents – which were difficult to distinguish from accidents – in the same spots affected by Doomsday’s rampage.
Superman catches Remnant’s pattern of mayhem, but by the time he does, Remnant is beginning his endgame. He kidnaps Ty Duffy, a Daily Planet reporter who dislikes Superman. He then plants a lead-lined van wired to explode by the Daily Planet. Leaving it in a no-parking zone, Superman catches the inconsistency, and Remnant traps him in a illusion meant to remind him of those who died in the battle with Doomsday. Though the Man of Steel finds that the bomb was a dud, Remnant then reveals himself to be on the same spot at the Planet where the battle with Doomsday ended, holding Perry White hostage and carrying a box with another bomb inside. Superman manages to get the bomb into the air safely, but Remnant planted a surprise inside the box: copies of Duffy’s piece on the anniversary, tainted by his personal grudge. Once the bomb goes off, Remnant disappears, never to be seen again.
DC: Rebirth
Remnant is operating as a criminal in Metropolis, using his illusions to commit crimes. After Superwoman’s battle with Ultrawoman, which resulted in the escape of many convicts located on Stryker’s Island, Remnant is seen in the tunnels connecting the city’s power grid, buying weapons from a dealer. Unaware the seller was flipped by the Metropolis Special Crimes Unit, he is cornered by their new recruit, Atomic Skull. Remnant tries using illusions to cover his escape, but Skull grabs him before he can get away. However, Skull’s power trigger an explosion that forces the fight above ground. Remnant tries to take a group of children hostage, but Superman and a powerless Lana Lang intervene, allowing Remnant to be captured. Once locked up, Atomic Skull convinces him to give up information on Crash – a Stryker’s escapee and brother of Steel – and his target, Skyhook.
