Revenant

Overview

Doom II

Revenants are very tall skeletons with metallic silver body armor, shoulder-mounted missile-launchers, and copious amounts of blood and gore running down their ribcage and legs. Their movements are rather stilted, rather like a puppet on strings. When they spot the player, Revenants let out a raging, pained, and high-pitched scream, then run directly at their target, firing missiles or punching any nearby targets with their large fists.

According to the Doom II manual: “Apparently when a demon dies, they pick him up, dust him off, wire him some combat gear, and send him back into battle. No rest for the wicked, eh? You wish your missiles did what his can do.”

The Revenants in Doom 3 abide by the same basic design of the original Revenants, but have a considerable share of visual changes. Most notably perhaps, they have a layer of skin – albeit translucent – covering their bodies and glowing green eyes. The Doom 3 Revenant also has more advanced chest armor with several tubes and wires connecting to the shoulder-mounted missile launchers.

At a certain point in the game, Doom 3 players can find the following notes recorded by scientists who were studying the Revenant: “This creature’s endoskeleton is visible through a translucent non-solid skin. Despite the absence of any visible muscles, this creature is able to strike at close-range targets with enormous strength. Two shoulder-mounted cannons controlled by its nervous system allow this creature to fire guided rocket-propelled missiles.”

Powers & Abilities

The Revenants main attack is firing its missiles, usually several of them at once, both guided and unguided in Doom II. The guided missiles do considerably more damage than the unguided. Revenants move rather slow though, as do their missiles, making dodging not too difficult. However, the Doom II Revenant moves significantly faster than the Doom 3 variant. Doom 3 Revenants can also be injured by the splash damage of their own missiles if they explode too close to themselves.

As stated in Doom 3, despite their bony limbs, Revenants pack a powerful punch for close combat.
