Goldy at Columbia
Goldy at Columbia

As a child, Robert “Goldy” Goldman started hearing a voice that he believed to be God. It pushed him to make small actions that eventually set off a series of events that had large consequences. After high school, he attended Columbia University, where he made friends with Matt Murdock, Foggy Nelson, and Elektra Natchios. It is there that he realizes that Matt had special abilities and believed that he was in fact Matt’s Guardian Angel.

Creation

Robert “Goldy” Goldman made his first appearance in Daredevil (2019) #22 by Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto, however, a retcon in Daredevil (2022) #2 confirmed that he was an onlooker who says “They’re killing the hostages” in Daredevil (1964) #168

Major Story Arcs

Prosecutor in New York City

As a prosecutor in New York City, when Daredevil was arrested for murder, Goldy cut a deal with Matt for him to complete his prison sentence in costume with his civilian identity intact.

While Matt was in prison, Goldy appeared to a confused Bullseye and inspired him and his newly created clones to wreak havoc on New York City to inspire Matt to escape from jail and protect the streets.

Red Fist Saga

After the events of Devil’s Reign, Goldy bumped into a man on the street looking for the library. After pointing him in the right direction, that man used the computer at the library to look up how to make a bomb. He detonated that bomb on his usual commuter train. Because Daredevil’s friend, Kirsten McDuffie was believed to be on that train (even though she missed it), Goldy finally revealed himself to Matt after the train had already exploded. He tried to convince Matt that it was all to make him a better hero, but Matt disagreed. They fought, but Goldy eventually got away. He would turn himself into the police for the bombing of the train and requested a special prison cell, as instructed by the voice he heard, at The Myrmidon.

A short time later, Daredevil would lead a team of Red Fist ninjas into the prison to recruit reinforcements, including Goldy. However, Goldy was the only one whose power dampening collar that Daredevil refused to remove. After The Fist causes enough trouble, it gets the attention of the Stromwynns, who drop the rage-inducing drug, Re-cid, and The Avengers, who are determined to arrest all the members. Goldy manages to avoid both the drugs and the Avengers, remaining on the Fist’s island.
