Roman, was falsely mistaken as being Zorro by the ruthless Captain Enrique Monasterio; shooting Roman at close range, which ended up permanently blinding him, and disfiguring left half of his face. The incidence leaves Roman incredibly depressed and vulnerable. He confides in his younger sister, Anita, who always lifts his spirits in his time of sorrow.
