Origin
Born in Malkier, his family moved to Arafel when he was a young man, and he thoroughly assimilated himself into the culture. As an adult he found work as a merchant’s guard. After his merchant is murdered he meets up with al’Lan Mandragoran and Bukama MarenellinÂ
Creation
Ryne was created by Robert Jordan for his book series The Wheel of Time, making his first appearance in the prequel, New Spring. He made his first comic appearance in Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time: New Spring #6, written by Jordan and Chuck Dixon and illustrated by Harvey Tolibao.Â

Having begun travelling with Lan and Bukama, he accompanies them and Moiraine Damodred on the way to Chachin. Unbeknownst to them, he is a Darkfriend who has been ordered to kill them by one of the members of the Black Ajah, Merean Redhill. He manages to kill Bukama, but is himself killed while fighting Lan. Â
Powers and Abilities
Ryne is a very skilled swordsman; Lan believes that he is better even than Lan himself. He is also competent with a number of other weapons. Â
