Sabo

Sabo

Origin

Sabo was the child of a noble family in the Gao Kingdom on Dawn Island in the East Blue. His own family treated him as a tool to marry and increase his family’s social standing and wealth. Fed up, he ran away to be an orphan in Grey Terminal. His first friend was Ace, and later came Luffy. The three would become closer than any friends and celebrated their brotherhood with three cups of sake.

However, Sabo’s father had hired the Bluejam Pirates to force him to return by threatening the lives of Ace and Luffy. Sabo returned to his family home, but discovered not long after that the nobles had planned to burn out all the poor from Grey Terminal with firebombs. He was unable to warn or stop the firebombing, and he didn’t know the fate of Ace and Luffy. He still wrote a letter for Ace and had it delivered to Curly Dadan’s home.

Longing to finally be free, Sabo set sail on his own, but his boat was shot out of the water by one of the Celestial Dragons in his passing vessel. He was thought to be dead by all who witnessed the attack, but he had been rescued by Monkey D. Dragon, the leader of the Revolutionary Army.

Sabo had been working from the shadows in the Revolutionary Army for years, but he arrived on Dressrosa with Koala just as Luffy and his Straw Hats were attacking Don Quixote Doflamingo’s group. He met with him at Corrida Colosseum, and took on his persona of “Lucy” in the tournament to claim Ace’s Flame-Flame Fruit.

Powers & Abilities

Sabo ate the Mero-Mero No Mi (Flame-Flame Fruit). This devil fruit grants the user to gain the powers of a logia and to control the element fire from his body. He used this power in order to save his little brother Luffy when confronted by Jesus Burgess during the attack on Dressrosa. Sabo was able to ultilize this power very effectively mere seconds after using it. Sabo also gain and learned the same abilities as Ace did. These techniques are…

  • Fire Fist (Hiken in Japanese) – Sabo is able to throw fire fists at targets in front of him. Sabo turns his hand/fist into flames and launches a fire explosion at the target at will. He used this technique when shattering the Dressrosa Colusseum stage after consuming the Fruit. It was even effective enough to burn Burgess.
  • Burning Dragon Claw Fist (Moeru Ryusoken: Kaen Ryuo in Japanese) – Sabo uses the combine abilities of his fire fist technique and Ryusoken style fighting, a hand based martial art technique developed by Sabo, to create a devistating attack against opponents. It sends opponents flying.
