When he first appeared, he was a baseball manager for a team on a South Pacific island. When he was brought to Central City, he became part of the cast. Sammy’s role in the stories was to provide comedy relief as he tried to prove himself as a crimefighter. He also thought he was a ladies’ man.
Sammy’s last appearance was in a September 14, 1952 strip, one month before Eisner canceled The Spirit.
