The original Scarlet Scarab was Adbul Faoul who was an archeologist who discovered an artifact in the form of a scarlet scarab called the Ruby Scarab . Upon picking it up, he was bestowed with mystic energy which bestowed upon him great power. He used it to fight for Egypt and helped fight against the Germans in World War II.
Upon his death, his son received the Scarlet Scarab and, like his father, Mehemet Faoul also fought for Egypt. However he was mistaken by Thor to be a criminal and the two clashed, showing his powers were comparable to engage even him.
