Åehzade Mustafa (born in 1515 in Manisa, died October 6, 1553 in EreÄli, present-day Konya province) is a son of Suleiman the Magnificent who was considered the main candidate for the throne until his execution.
He was governor of the province of Manisa from 1533 to 1541 then of that of Amasya from 1541 to his death in 1553.
Mustafa, the eldest of Suleiman’s surviving sons, was considered the most talented of the brothers and had the support of Pargalı Ibrahim Pasha, who was Suleiman’s grand vizier at the start of his reign.
