Origin
Seiya was orphaned as a young child, and was separated from his sister Seika when he was taken away by Mitsumasa Kido along with 99 other boys to train to become Saints. He was promised that he would be united with his sister if he was successful in becoming a Saint. He was sent to Greece and trained by Aquila Marin over the course of several years. The Bronze Cloth of Pegasus was awarded to him after he won the tournament among the prospective Saints by beating Cassios in the final round. Upon returning to Japan and demanding to see his sister, Seiya discovered that Seika had disappeared, and Mitsumasa, the one who had promised to return her to him, had died. Mitsumasa’s granddaughter, Saori, agreed to use the vast resources of her company, the Graude Foundation, to find Seika, but only on the condition that Seiya would fight in, and win, the Galaxian Wars, a tournament among the orphans who had managed to become Bronze Saints. Seiya defeated Bear Geki and Dragon Shiryu in the tournament, but the Galaxian Wars could not be concluded because Phoenix Ikki arrived and stole the Gold Cloth that was to be the prize for the winner.  Seiya and several of the other Bronzes, including  Cygnus Hyoga, Andromeda Shun, and Dragon Shiryu, agreed to work together to retrieve the Gold Cloth.
Powers and Abilities
As a Saint, Seiya possesses superhuman strength, speed, agility, and endurance. His Cloth also protects him from damage. Initially, he is able to attack at about the speed of sound, but as he increases his skill he eventually obtains light speed. His primary attack is the “Pegasus Ryu Sei Ken” (Pegasus Shooting Star Punch), a flurry of a hundred strikes that land in under a second (or less, depending on his skill level at the time). A variation on this is the “Sui Sei Ken” (Meteor Punch) in which he concentrates all of the power of the Ryu Sei Ken into a single strike. His most infrequently used attack is the “Pegasus Rolling Crush”: he grabs hold of his opponent and flings them both toward the ground or a cliff face/wall and leaps free at the last second.  Â
