During the year after Infinite Crisis, he along with Hal Jordan and Jillian Pearlman, were sent on an Air Force mission over Russia. Their planes were shot down and since Hal never flies with his Green Lantern Ring, the three of them were captured and tortured for intel. The three were eventually able to escape and were given awards for their sacrifices.
