According to Steve Englehart and Jim Starlin, the editor Roy Thomas demanded that Shang-Chi be half-American, she appears in only two stories, in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021), Shang-Chi’s mother is an Asian woman, Ying Li (played by Fala Chen), Gene Luen Yang was inspired by Ying Li and created Jiang Li, the American woman was never mentioned again.
