Shinobu

Origin

Shinobu was born on the isolated Airan Island along with her two sisters, Kunai and Mikoto. They were trained from a young age by their mother Kokoro to be ninja. When all the girls of the island were young, their fathers all tragically died during a storm at sea while fishing. While inspired by a book she read, she strayed to follow the path of a samurai. During her travels across Airan Island, she found a young cow she named Beef Steak. As she started hearing from the various animal guardians about a young man named Ikuto that had recently arrived from the outside, she returned to the village to challenge him to a duel.

Creation

Shinobu (???, Shinobu) is a main character in the Nagasarete Airantou series that was created by Takeshi Fujishiro. The series first began serialization in Square Enix’s Monthly Sh?nen Gangan magazine in January 2002.

Her first appearance was in Nagasarete Airantou Volume 8 CH. 43 “Nin-Nin Shite”.

Powers & Abilities

Though Shinobu is extremely clumsy, she has no problem recovering due to her extreme level of durability. Her strength of body allows her to recover quickly after falling.

Kendo

Shinobu has trained in sword techniques since she first became infatuated with samurai. Despite her impressive skill from self training, she went to Ikuto for training.

Ninjutsu

Shinobu was trained in various skills of ninjutsu by her mother. Part of this training also included hand-to-hand combat.

Super Speed

As part of Shinobu’s ninja training, she learned how to move at incredible speed for short bursts. This is helpful in combat for getting behind her opponent to strike before they can notice her. However, this speed can work against her due to her natural clumsiness.

Poison Resistance

While growing up, Shinobu and her sisters were slowly trained by their mother in resistance to a wide variety of poisons. Kokoro gave them all small doses of poisons slowly as they grew up. This made them immune to various drugs.

Shadow Clones

A special technique that Shinobu likes to use is her ability to create physical clones of herself. When up against a formidable opponent, she will create eight clones to overpower her target with numbers. Sadly, they are still just an clumsy as the original.

Nagasarete Airantou (2007)

The Nagasarete Airantou anime series is the second direct adaptation of Takeshi Fujishiro’s original manga. This series is produced by Feel and first began airing in April 4, 2007. Shinobu’s first anime appearance was in Nagasarete Airantou – Episode 18 “Let’s Have A Match, Ninja”, which aired on August 1. 2007. Her character in the Japanese series is voiced by Orie Kimoto.

Shinobu’s introduction in the Nagasarete Airantou anime was changed for the original manga version. As well as her first meeting with Ikuto.
