Once upon a time, Zheng Zhilan was a member of the House of the Deadly Staff. She would be kicked out by their leader, Zheng Zu, when it came to his attention that she was a mutant. Marked for death, she would lay low in Ireland where she earned a reputation as The Lake Witch of Muckross Lake in Killarney National Park. When a tourist caught her using her powers, it got the attention of the Five Weapons Society, now under Shang-Chi‘s control and interested in bringing her back into the fold.
