Origin

Peni Parker is the daughter of the original pilot of the SP//dr armor. A strange armor genetically linked to a spider named SP//dr. Peni grew up without knowing her father, but was recruited to become the new pilot of the SP//dr armor after her father died during a failure in the suit. Peni was taken into the home of two people she referred to as Aunt May and Uncle Ben. As the years progressed, she became a superhero around the age of 12.

Creation

Peni Parker and SP//dr were created by Gerard Way and Jake Wyatt and first appeared in Edge of Spider-Verse issue 5 (2014).

Major Story Arcs

Recruitment of Spider-Verse

Peni was living her relatively normal life as a superhero until she was recruited by Spider-Ham to become part of a group of interdimensional heroes whom all had spider-like powers. Peni learned that a group of immortals known as The Inheritors sought Spider-totems across the multiverse and drained them of their energy, having them killed in the process. Since Peni also had spider-like powers, she was at risk as well.

Peni decided the join the spider-heroes and fought valiantly alongside them, eventually being able to trap the Inheritors on a radioactive alternate world, where they hoped to be rid of the Inheritors forever. After their joined enemy was taken out, Peni returned to her home-dimension.

Spider-Geddon

Some months later, the Inheritors would find a way to return to the multiverse. Peni was once again asked to join a group of spider-like heroes, this time under the leadership of the Superior Spider-Man (Otto Octavius).

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)

• Peni Parker and SP//dr appear in the animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, voiced by Orange is the New Black star Kimiko Glenn.

Merchandise

• SP//dr was the subject of a Marvel Legends Build-a-Figure wave from Hasbro. SP//dr could be assembled after purchasing all of the corresponding figures in the wave (House of M Spider-Man, Scarlet Spider, Cloak and Dagger, Marvel Now Daredevil, Elektra and Doctor Octopus).
• Peni Parker and SP//dr were featured as part of Hasbro’s toyline for the Into the Spider-Verse movie.
