Styx

Origin

Jacob Eishorn was an average homeless man who was hard on his luck. That is until Stone and a group of scientist were trying to find the cure for the common cold, but Stone wanted other things, something bigger. Stone wanted to cure cancer. The theory was that the body could develop immunity to it by controlled exposure, similar to the way it can come to tolerate snake poison. In order to test his ideas, Stone needed someone to research on and so came about the duo’s partnership came about. Jacob was injected with a mutated cancer compound but, in addition to developing immunity, he became a living cancer himself with a death touch that will steal the life from anything organic and it was at this point that he named himself Styx after the passage to Hades. Ever since then Styx and Stone have worked closely together.

Creation

Styx was created by David Michelinie and Todd McFarlane in 1988 and first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man # 309.

Powers and Abilities

Styx’s primary power is the ability to kill organic matter that comes into contact with him. In Spider-Man’s words, Styx “even rots 40-year-old grain” as well as being powerful enough to defeat Venom with a mere touch. When destroying matter, he gains great pleasure and sometimes cannot resist using his ability.

Along with his main power, Styx is immune to cancer and can also extend his fingers in order to make it easier for him to reach his prey.
