Origin
After World War II, Mary Mitchell worked for Jim Hammond, the original Human Torch, as his secretary. She fell in love with Jim, and when Toro left to take care of his foster mother, Mary, using the name Sun Girl, began fighting alongside Jim as his sidekick.
Creation
Sun Girl was created by Ken Bald and an unknown writer for a self-titled series released by Timely beginning in 1948.

Sun Girl is a trained acrobat and is skilled in judo and ji-jitsu. She has some level of super-human speed, and uses a Sunbeam ray-gun.
