Omar Pairut, a man who was obsessed with with bringing back the days of the Persian Empire. He first appeared in the DC Special Series Volume 1: 5 Star Super Hero Spectacular in September, 1977. In the Aquaman story, “A king without a Sea!” Omar, went in search of a mystical Sunstone that would give him the powers to make his dreams come true. Upon finding the Sunstone and transforming into the villainous being called Sunburst, Omar would run into the path of Aquaman.
The two clashed, and after a good fight, Sunburst defeated Aquaman, and to add more insult to injury, dropped the unconscious Atlantian King into an Iranian desert. As Omar continued to make his dream a reality, Aquaman was able to find an Oasis and gather enough water for him to survive and make it to Omar’s next location, the city of Bakushi.
The hero & villain fight once more, however Aquaman wiser from their previous encounter was able to defeated the Sunburst being, by reflecting it’s own powers against it using a mirror. After these two confrontations, Omar, aka the villainous Sunburst, is never seen from again…
