Starting in the 30s and going to the 50s there was a sub-genre of the cowboy movie that featured singing cowboys, the first was John Wayne (then called Sandy the Singing Cowboy) with someone else dubbing in his voice. Soon there were Cowboy stars such as Gene Autry, Roy Rogers and Tex Ritter who made a name for themselves doing this.
The last of the singing Cowboys was Sunset Carson, he was also one of the last of the B-Western “stars” making it just under the wire before all that went away.
He, like just about everybody who ever wore a cowboy hat before a camera in the 40s and 50s, also got in the comics.
