Tatsuma, more than any other character, is an example of the importance of so many of Gintama’s short, often comedic and seemingly unimportant arcs. Introduced in one of the first chapters of the series, he would go on to have no role for seven years, yet appear fairly highly in popularity polls throughout this time and remained a natural fit for the series despite having very little interaction with it.
