Ted Kane

Fletcher Hanks created Ted Kane, King of the Northwoods, for the Harry A. Chesler title WITTY COMICS in 1945. Hanks re-worked a story originally featuring his character, “Big” Red McLane, originally featured in six issues of FIGHT COMICS, published by Fiction House. Hanks’ re-working was re-titled “Ted Kane” after some creative white-ink and re-inking and the resulting story was sold to the Chesler shop for its brief title WITTY COMICS. This was the character’s only appearance, and features Hanks’ distinctively oddball style and writing. No evidence exists to definitively clarify why Hanks’ existing relationship with Fiction House using this character was aborted at this point in 1945.
