Allegedly he started out as the flying hero the Moth Man (though he was only called the Moth Man on the cover, on the inside he was The Moth) but was changed to The Lynx, because DC thought he was too much like the Batman as the Moth.
As the Lynx he was “energized by a famous biologist” (never depicted in the comics) and could leap great distances and throw heavy furniture and henchman around with relative ease. A blow to the back of the head could take him out however.
His sidekick was Blackie the Mystery Boy, who dressed a lot like Robin for his first couple appearances before losing the mask. How that retained the mystery is beyond my ken.
