Erika is the kind of person who has always had it easy in life and so she treats her powers the way she would treat all the gifts she’s been given in life– for granted. Erika does not seek to train or improve her powers even knowing that they can be unreliable at times.
She doesn’t seem to take the superhero business seriously and is most likely in the contest just for a spot in the limelight.
