Nicky Adams lived in New York City in the 1940s. As a teenager, he joined a street gang named the Voltas and started robbing liquor stores with some local boys to put food on the table. When one of the gang members married a broad who was related to the Mafia, the Voltas suddenly were getting paid by the mob. Nicky didn’t like this, but it provided for him and his girl Emma.
After years, Nicky and Emma got married. With the cash he made from the mob, he wanted to leave organized crime behind and start a family with her. But the mob wanted to do one more job with him: rob Eve’s Garden, a casino in Atlantic City. Nicky was the getaway driver. Hearing shots coming out of the casino, he fled the scene.
Five years later, he noticed he was cursed when his body slowly started rotting. He later discovered this was because he accomplices had killed one of the Children of Eve in the casino. It was they, who cursed the robbers, even Nicky who never went into the casino. Not wanting to see his loved one gag at the sight of him rotting, he left his wife.
