Origin
Born as a healthy baby boy, Norman S. Rotrig was facially mutilated by his insane father after the death of his wife from childbirth. His father was inspired by the novel “The Man Who Laughs” by Victor Hugo. His name comes partially from his resemblance to the painting of the same name but on a deeper level, the fact that, as a supervillian, he was created entirely by his father. He was raised entirely by his father, and transformed into the man he is today through a steady diet of insanity, artistic desire, and experimentation. His flesh was brought into this world by a woman, but the being he grew into becoming was born entirely of Man.
Creation
The Son of Man was created by writer David Hine, as an antagonist for the french representative of Batman Incorporated, Nightrunner. His name comes from the Rene Magritte painting with a similar dressed man.
