Tom DuBois

Tom DuBois

Origin

Tom is shown to be a caring family man, who has a close relationship with his wife Sarah, and his daughter Jazmine. His hobbies were singing and playing the piano, dreaming to become a successful recording artist. Although his wife and friends don’t find his singing amusing.

He played basketball on his Ivy League college team, but as Sarah points out he was mostly a bench warmer. His failures as a player, along with the influence of The Mighty Ducks film lead to coach a Woodcrest youth basketball team, failing to get a win for two years. He is also known as a “wet blanket” due to unable to lighten up.

Tom and his wife work for the NAACP and have strong understanding with the hardship of African Americans. Although he was a supporter in many African American issues, there’re often times he contrasted. Such as a role as a prosecutor in “The Trail Of R.Kelly.” And was temporarily convinced by Uncle Ruckus that he is a self-hating black man, as he can’t stand certain black individuals such as Kobe Bryant, Usher, and others.

Tom follows the laws strictly, due to fears of being sent to jail and sexually assaulted by men. This fear came to Tom at a very young age from a television series that shows violent prison rape. It developed to such a degree that Tom refused to participate in even the slightest of legal crime, as a youth throughout adulthood. He eventually confronts his feats in “A Date With the Body Warrior” with the hopes of becoming a defense attorney.

Relationships

Sarah DuBois

The wife of Tom. Their relationship is portrayed unenthusiastic. Sarah doesn’t like Tom’s dull personality and Tom in-return finds Sarah insufferable. This leads her to over-like famous black musicians such as Usher, which Tom dislikes. Other than that, their marriage is loving and stable.

Jazmine DuBois

The daughter of Sarah and Tom. Tom and Jazmine have a close and loving relationship. But Tom is often shown to overly protect Jazmine quite a bit.

Robert Freeman

Good friend of Tom. Often seen hanging together although Robert does not show Tom the gratitude he shows. He makes fun of Tom time to time about his lack of masculinity and usually known as a social buzzkill. Tom, however, trust Robert and counts on him when in trouble, which Robert does not like as well.

Uncle Ruckus

Tom and Uncle Ruckus have a weird friendship due to Ruckus having a distaste of black people. But he has more respect for Tom than other black people because of his light skin, his education, and most of all his white wife. As others, they find Ruckus insufferable.
