Origins
Tom Mason was an history professor before the invasion. He lost his wife a few months after the invasion and his middle child, Ben went missing, leaving Tom alone to raise his other two sons, Hal and Matt. One of the main reasons Captain Weaver tolerates Tom being second in command in the 2nd Mass is the useful insight that he give from his knowledge of past wars and battles. He cares for all the people around him and tries to keep everyone safe. Even so, his main priority is getting Ben back from the Skitters that took him away. Tom has also formed a close bond with Anne, who looks after his youngest son, Matt, when he is out on missions.
