As Top Cat was the brand name of a well-known cat food in the UK when the Top Cat began airing, the cartoon’s title card was changed to refer to him as Boss Cat, although the opening theme and dialogue still used the Top Cat name. This name change persisted from 1962 to 1999, after which the cartoon reverted to its proper name, as the cat food brand was no longer on sale.
