Darren Mitchell is the grandson of one of the Kid Commandos, the second Human Top, David Mitchell. David and Gwenny Lou were victims of the Nazi villain Agent Axis who was going to experiment on them using a transfusion from android Human Torch. Darren used his scientific knowledge and his father’s research to create his powers. He tends to be the V-Battalion’s science officer, and he has sacrificed a lot growing up in a isolated environment. He feels that he is ready for the responsibilities against world conflict. However, with the death of his close friend Ameiko, the V-Battalion operative known as Goldfire, Darren feels that maybe there is no reason he should stay with the V-Battalion. However, following Ameiko’s funeral, Darren discovered that his friend died doing what she believed in, and he also believed in her cause. He has returned to the V-Battalion more dedicated then ever.
