Yuri Ishikawa was the prisoner of a vicious daimyo who sought to crush the Shimabara Revolt and rid Japan of Christianity. Yuri’s life was saved by one of the daimyo’s generals, himself secretly a christian, who sacrificed his own daughter so that Yuri could escape. Though her body survived taht fateful day, Yuri Ishikawa nevertheless died and Tora No Shi was born. And it was Tora No Shi who made an oath to deliver the ashes of the brave young girl who died in her stead to Rome where they may be blessed by the Pope.
