Ulthane also known as the Black Hammer is an “Old One” like War and the Charred Council, far older than Heaven or Hell, and a great craftsman of legendary weapons and armour he is also a fearsome warrior.
During a mission, War and Ulthane will both kill angels and a counter will pop up at the top-right of the screen. Ulthane will also break ice obstacles which War can’t break (at that time in the game, he needs a special piece of equipment to break it). If War kills more angels then Ulthane the “Who’s Counting?” achievement/trophy is unlocked. After defeating The Griever you must return to Ulthane and he gives you your gun Mercy. Later on, War finds out that it was he who forged the Armageddon Blade used to break six of the Seven Seals and asks him to reforge it, which he does once the shards have been gathered.
