Origin

The Event:

Val was an astrophysicist working with Foresight Corporation during an earth ending event where an asteroid was heading towards the planet. Lorena Payan, owner of Foresight, hired her to work on the science side of a plan to stop the asteroid, however this required her to go to space with a team, hand picked by Lorena. While in space the plan goes astray and causes the asteroid to explode. This kills all of her team, with only her surviving. However, this is later found out to be untrue, and just publicly believed. After saving the world, it turns out, secretly that Lorena made up the danger, for unknown reasons, and that the asteroid would have missed earth.

Major Story Arcs

The Long Way Home:

After being found alive, Val starts to see the ghosts of her dead crew members, and hearing voices, including the voice of her late girlfriend, Kay. Later she learns that some close friends died in a plane crash, along with their daughter, Fiona, this along with the grief and loss she already felt breaks her, awakening her powers and releasing a huge blast of energy. Knowing that something is wrong, Val turns to her friend and colleague, J.B., who takes her to his lab to run tests. There they discover that her powers are controlled by her emotions and that feeling the loss her crew mates makes her lose control. In order to counteract that, they begin to design a suit.

Later she gets a text from the thought to be dead Fiona, who is stuck in the jungle and being hunted by men with guns. This prompts Val to meet up with J.B. and his team, in order to test the new suit and go save Fiona. After arriving in the jungle and saving Fiona from the men, they are rescued via helicopter by Foresight and Lorena, who is very interested in her powers and suit. That, and the bullets from the jungle belonging to Foresight, gives Val just the information to justify the revelation that Lorena faked the asteroid data and is up to something. She quits Foresight and decides to start taking care of Fiona and working with J.B. and crew to find out what really happened during the Event.

Powers and Abilities

Val is a walking human fusion reactor, she can release plasma blasts with a similar power to the sun. Her powers are controlled by her emotions, the stronger the emotion the more intense and powerful the output. In order to help control and contain her power she, and her team, created the SUM.M.I.T. Suit (Spatial Utility Mecha Massachusetts Institute of Technology).

Val is also an astrophysicist and astronaut who graduated from M.I.T. An astrophysicist is a scientist who focuses on the principles of physics and chemistry in space.
