Visioneer

Origin

A single mother with unique abilities, Abigail Dunton found a place for herself in Damage Control, a search and rescue team formed during the Hulk’s rampage in World War Hulk. Using the code-name, “Visioneer”, she uses what she deems to be “limited” psychic abilities to sense survivors in need of help trapped under the rubble.

Creation

Visioneer was created by Robert Kirkman and Cory Walker and first appeared in The irredeemable Ant-Man issue 7 (2007).

Major Story Arcs

Enter Ant-Man

Visioneer’s world is turned upside down when she meets Ant-Man, Eric O’Grady (then mascarading under the alias Slaying Mantis, Derek Sullivan). The two are smitten by each other’s abrasive personalities and genuinely hit it off. Things seem to be going relatively well until Abigail reveals she has a young son from a previous relationship. Eric is upset and leaves her in an emotional tantrum.

After Eric realizes he is going to be put in the Avengers Initiative, he returns one last time to Abigail’s home to tell her he’ll be going away, but wishes for them to continue their relationship whenever he returns. Abigail is initially tentative, but amicably wishes Eric luck and admits she still loves him.

Personality and Powers

Visioneer possesses a sarcastic and somewhat abrasive personality. She does not hesitate to speak her mind, and often does questionable acts simply as a matter of principle (such as stealing a tip left for a waitress who gave her bad service at a diner).

Visioneer is very self-depricating about her telepathic powers, calling them “stupid” or not even referring to them as a power. This makes it difficult to determine how powerful she actually is, though it seems her powers are more based upon emotion than actually being able to read thoughts, as she senses those under great stress or agitation with greater frequency.
