She was very close to Hazel, Foxglove and Barbie.
She considered Barbie her best friend and often went out of her way to care for her. Providing coffee or a comforting ear or guarding against the suspect dangers of New York City,
Wanda and most everyone else in the building were caught up in the dangers of the Cuckoo, a mystical threat.
Thessaly, a neighbor and a witch, was attacked as well but fought back, killing the threat, a neighbor from upstairs.
Wanda was caught up in the mystical and literal storm surrounding the building. She found it very hard to deal with but pushed on through, because Barbie, knocked unconscious by magic, was in danger.
In order to pursue the threat of the Cuckoo to where it lived, Thessaly had performed a powerful spell. This affected the Earth’s moon, which caused the terrible physical storm.
Foxglove and Hazel went with Thessaly to cross the dimensions, leaving Wanda behind, entirely against her will.
Wanda only briefly left Barbie’s side when she saw a homeless woman knocked down by the storm. She brought the woman inside, to the room with Barbie’s prone body. During the mystical escapades it is learned that Wanda has not fully gone through with the surgeries she desires to have because of a crippling phobia of any and all forms of surgery.
Thessaly, in another realm, eliminated the threat of the Cuckoo, who had planned to kill Barbie and take over her body. In the material world the storm demolishes several buildings, including the apartments. Barbie is the only person to survive, having been cushioned by the homeless woman’s body.
Thessaly, Foxglove and Hazel are returned safely, thanks to the boon Barbie had requested from Morpheus.
Later, Barbie takes a long road trip to Wanda’s funeral. The only one of Wanda’s family to remotely accept Wanda as she is was Wanda’s aunt and even then, not much. Everyone else refused to accept Wanda’s life, even going so far as to use the wrong name on the gravestone.
Barbie stays behind and when no one is looking, writes Wanda’s correct name her gravestone.
Later, a brief nap on the bus allows Barbie to say goodbye. Death, standing with Wanda as she always saw herself, the outward physical appearance that she had always desired to present.
They both briefly see Barbie and wave in farewell.
