Warrior Dragon

Biography

The Warrior Dragon featured in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures comics published by Archie. Chu Hsi was a New York city fireman stationed in China Town who while trying to save the life of a child he became trapped in a burning building. A mysterious curio shop owner uses an ancient relic to turn Chu into a giant Warrior Dragon so he and the child could escape. Now that he was one with the warrior dragon spirit he transformed a second time to battle a giant Foot Soldier robot.

Chu Hsi as well as his mentor Fu Sheng were kidnapped by mysterious Ninjas and were taken to Hiroshima in Japan. Their captor Chien Khan sought to bring forth a demon Noi Tai Dar from the underworld. Hoping to channel the energy from a nuclear meltdown he used a spell to brainwash Chu and sent him as the Warrior Dragon to attack the nearby Nuclear power plant. Partly bringing forth the demon he was attacked by it and the spell wore off. Along with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, April O’Neil and their new ally Ninjara he returned Chien Khan’s head quarters and stopped him from making the ritual sacrifice of a girl named Oyuki Mamisha which would fully bring the demon into the world.

Chu trained with Fu Sheng to try and control his transformations and after a while he was able master them and assume a more normal height as the Dragon if he wished. Traveling back to New York he helped defeat Chien Khan a second time.

In other media

The warrior Dragon was given an action figure as part of the original TMNT toyline released by Playmates. His name was changed to “Hothead” and his color of his skin was changed from yellow to red, on the back card his origin was the same as the Archie comic version.

Under the Hothead name he was also featured in the TMNT Tournament Fighters Game from the Nintendo Entertainment System once again with the same origin as the comic. The game allowed two of the same characters to battle each other in VS mode but due to the technical limitations of the NES Hothead cold not battle himself. An issue of Nintendo Power Magazine stated that the reason Hothead could not fight himself was because his Dragon sprite would not allow such a battle to take place. There is, however, a glitch that allows two players to play as Hothead but this causes massive sprite flicker and frame drop rate.
