Referred to by the papers as “The Wharf Rat”, this villain was a young woman who would rob and murder couriers carrying uncut gemstones while wearing a rat costume, complete with claws that she used to kill them. She was also adept at disguise, once hiding her identity behind the facade of an old, frightened woman. The Triple Terror set a trap for her by having Menta pose as a courier. When The Rat attacked, the team captured and unmasked her. The real identity of the Wharf Rat was not revealed.

The Liberty Brigade

The Rat is given a new lease on life in the a pages of The Liberty Brigade. In her new retcon origin story, his secret identity is Bridget Murphy, the oldest child of safecracker Seamus Murphy who had a idyllic childhood until her parents were both felled by polio. Sewing as a seamstress wasn’t enough to pay the bills, so Bridget used her father’s knowledge to augment her wages with small thefts and robbery. Her great insight was to sew The Rat costume so she could thieve without fear of being identified.

After being caught by The Triple Terror, The Rat easily escaped from the police only to be tracked by Terror member Menta. The two formed an unexpected relationship when she escaped that night. Sometime later, The Rat teamed-up with Mastermind, Professor Fenton, Frost, and Veda the Cobra Woman as agents of Hitler’s Death Lords, where she and Veda defeated Catman together. The Rat was a part of the incursion strike force along with The Aryan Skulls, The Death Snakes, and The Invincibles where they attempted to assassinate President Franklin D. Roosevelt at The White House. The attempt failed by the arrival of reserve superheroes and The Liberty Brigade. The Rat was revealed to be a traitor who informed The Liberty Brigade of the capture superheroes and their sinister plan after they imprisoned Menta and tried to replicate his abilities.
