This version of Ragman first appeared in a variant cover for The Multiversity: The Society of Super-Heroes: The Conquerors of the Counter-World and in print in The Multiversity Guidebook #1 – Maps and Legends both by writer Grant Morrison and drawn by Frazer Irving and Jae Lee respectively.
This Ragman was differentiated from the prime Ragman in DC’s Very Merry Multiverse #1 by Sholly Fisch.
Ya’akov Ben Shimon lived in Earth 13’s Ancient Egypt initially as a Hebrew slave but was able to disguise himself as an Egyptian named Amun at the cost of abandoning his family. Upon the death of the Pharaoh, he is forced to serve as a protector in his tomb. He petitions Egyptian gods Anubis and Osiris for entrance to the afterlife, but his lie caught up with him. Begging the gods, they sentence him to walk earth in rags helping those who can’t help themselves until his merits outweigh his past sins.
