Origin
The man who refers to himself as Z.W.E.L. is mysterious in origin, his real name, age and origin unknown. Fear, suspicion and rumors do follow the fighter when he travels though, in part due to ZWEL’s supernatural ability to summon a powerful and supernatural wolf like spirit creature, which he can either control or acts on his behalf. This ethereal ghostly creature is known as E.I.N. and although it can act in a near intangible way, it can interact with physical surroundings and deliver blows when desired. The two beings have not always been connected. ZWEL did not gain the ability to summon EIN until a violent encounter in which ZWEL refused the orders of a patron, Graf Dumas. Incensed by his refusal, Graf Dumas had ordered his men to lynch ZWEL and it was in near death that he received a mysterious brand and the ability to call forth EIN.
ZWEL would learn to move around frequently, and he would also eventually find friendship with fortune teller and fighter Viola. Then both would find assistance and aid by the powerful knight Siegfried.
Creation
Z.W.E.L. is fictional character created for the Soul Calibur franchise, created by publisher Bandai Namco. The mysterious fighter first appeared in Soul Calibur V released in 2012 and his design is attributed to Takuji Kawano.
Speaking of the character “I took two prototype characters designed by other designers, the “mysterious hooded man” and “vagrant in leather”, and combined them with a base character model strong enough to support a ‘silently burning desire for vengeance’ while maintaining a calm and mature vibe.” Some earlier concept designs of ZWEL suggests he may have been able to summon a variety of ethereal ghostly spirits.
Powers and Abilities
ZWEL utilizes a sword with three handles, and can summon EIN, a mysterious and ethereal wolf ghost that can perform a variety of attacks.
