Aegis

Origin

Aegis lived in this universe since it was young. She was tasked with sorting out the divergences of the living universe. She destroyed all of the chaos mites that Diableri created. After the Proemial Gods lost their battle with Galactus, Aegis and Tenebrous were the only survivors, and Galactus imprisoned them at the edge of the universe.

Creation

Aegis was created by artist Renato Arlem and writer Keith Giffen. She made her first appearance in Annihilation: Silver Surfer #3 in 2006.

Major Story Arcs

Annihilation (2006)

After their battle with Galactus, Aegis and Tenebrous remained imprisoned for centuries. They were able to escape when the Annihilation Wave entered the positive universe and damaged their prison. Other escapees included Fallen One, Galactus’s first herald, and Kosmos the Maker, also known as the Beyonder. Tenebrous drained the strength of Fallen One and together with Aegis he confronted and defeated Galactus and Silver Surfer.

Aegis and Tenebrous later returned to their old prison in search of other surviving Proemial Gods, but found only the body of Antiphon the Overseer. They were attacked by the Silver Surfer, but he was swiftly defeated and left to die. In a desperate move the Silver Surfer channelled the energies of the ‘crunch’ into a tidal wave, and Aegis and Tenebrous were ‘consigned to oblivion, consumed by the energies that were their very essence’ – as Galactus observed.

Thanos Imperative (2010)

Aegis returned during the events of the Thanos Imperative, without any explanation as to how she had escaped the ‘oblivion’ that Galactus had described. She played no notable role during these events, and appeared only in the background alongside Galactus, Tenebrous and other Cosmic Abstracts. During the events of Thanos Imperative #3 Aegis was splayed in battle.

Powers and abilities

The Nova Corps Database lists Aegis threat level as ‘presumed universal’. It has no information on her natural abilities and possible weaknesses. The issues in which Aegis appears reveal that she draws her powers from the ‘crunch’, enabling her to gather, channel, and manipulate large quantities of cosmic energy. She also has the physical strength to fight against Galactus and Silver Surfer.
