Origin
Ashalata was a widow in her third year of mourning when she met Colonel Cathcart meets, a westerner. Living in Nasik, an Indian city in Maharashtra, the locals were a superstitious lot and did not approve of the match, or the subsequent child of that match. Ashalata would hear the people and even her own servants whisper behind her back about herself and her son, Vimal. Not wanting her son to have to deal with the whispers or taunts, she sent him to his father at the English military school.
Creation
Ashalata Devi is a character in Untouchable, a one shot written by Mike Carey and Samit Basu, it was released Dynamite Entertainment in 2010.
